Decide on a University, Course or College

One of the very first steps to applying for a Uk Study visa, is to have a study course of choice, and to apply to a school. Research will go a long way to ensure that you have chosen a good course and a good school. One of the ways for you to be sure that you have chosen a good school and course, is to go through your potential university’s brochure, and website to have more information about accreditation of both the school and the course.

Make an Application to the school

Now, that you have chosen a school, it is time to send in an application. Application process can differ depending on the university. You can apply online on the website, or through UCAS(for certain universities), or you can apply in person at the university. To apply, you will need your high school or secondary school result, (WAEC/NECO), your international passport, school transcripts if applicable.

Accept your offer

You will be contacted by your school, usually via email for a feedback on your admission process. However, if you applied through UCAS, you can track your admission process by yourself so as to know if you have been given admission or not. If you have been given a provisional admission, the next step is to accept the offer, by adding your signature and sometimes it might require making a tuition deposit to get your CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies). The UK immigration requires that universities sponsor applications for a student visa. A CAS number confirms that you have been given an unconditional offer of in a school and that you’ve accepted it. 

Arrange Funding and start your visa process

As a Nigerian, you need a student visa to study in the UK. The next step is to apply for your student visa, pay your visa fee, and gather your proof of funds document. You will need to pay a fee called an Immigration Health Surcharge. This gives you access to the UK’s National Health Service. Students receive a 25 per cent discount on the usual cost, so the rate for student visa holders is £470 per year.  You will need to complete your application and have it accepted before you arrive in the UK
