This is what you need to know about this new update and to know if you are eligible for the new category-based pathway
The Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada IRCC, has recently announced the launch of a new category-based selection for candidates in the Express Entry managed programs. While this is wonderful news, how much do you know about this new pathway, and what does it take for you to qualify?
Express Entry is an electronic system that is used to manage the applications of skilled workers who wish to become permanent residents of Canada. Once an interested candidate submits an online profile, the Government will determine if the candidate is eligible for a program managed by Express Entry.
Eligible candidates are accepted into the Express Entry pool and are ranked according to the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). The CRS is a point-based system used by the government to assess and rank candidates in the Express Entry pool. The CRS score is calculated based on a candidate’s age, education, work experience, language skills, as well as other factors.
So, are you eligible for this new category-based selection?
As an Express Entry candidate, you will be eligible under the new draw categories if you have work experience in:
– Healthcare, Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) professions
– Have strong French language proficiency (at least NCLC 7 in reading, writing, listening, and speaking)
When will the draws start? Draws are said to begin in the summer of 2023, but no dates have been announced yet
Will the categories change?
The categories can change on a yearly basis following an IRCC report to parliament that includes:
- the categories from the previous year
- why and how they were chosen
- the instructions to establish a category
- the number of invitations that were issued for each category
IRCC says the report will also include information about category-based selection in the Express Entry Year-End Report
