Ibadan is the capital and most populous city of Oyo Nigeria. Ibadan, coined from the phrase “Eba-Odan” which literally means ‘by the edge of the meadow. The city of Ibadan is naturally surrounded by five rivers with many tributaries: Ona River in the North and West; Ogbere River towards the East; Ogunpa River flowing through the city and Kudeti River in the Central part of the metropolis. Ogunpa River, a third-order stream with a channel length of 12.76 km and a catchment area of 54.92 km2. Lake Eleyele is located at the northwestern part of the city, while the Osun River, Asejire Lake bounds the city to the east and the fifth rivers boundary Ibadan with other Oke-Oguns towns, witch call Odo-ogun Rivers across Lagos State, Ogun State, Osun State, Iseyin Town and Eruwa Town boundary to Ibadan. It is the home to the first television station in Africa

  1. Bower’s Tower: Erected in 1936 to honor Captain R.L. Bower, one of the earliest colonial officers who governed Ibadan between 1893 and 1897. From the tower, 80% of Ibadan can be seen. Originally built as a watchtower to monitor and curb anti-social behaviors such as kidnapping, human sacrifices, and communal conflicts, it also marked the beginning of a peaceful and progressive era in education. Located at Oke-Aremo, Ibadan North Local Government.
  2. Institute of African Studies Museum: This museum showcases an impressive collection of prehistoric bronze carvings and statues.
  3. University of Ibadan Zoological Garden: Situated at the University of Ibadan, Ibadan North Local Government, this ecological and recreational site is one of Nigeria’s top tourist destinations. The zoo, maintained by the University, houses a variety of animals, including wild creatures like elephants and different monkey species, as well as smaller animals such as rats, squirrels, and hares. It also features birds like ostriches and peacocks, making it a popular spot for animal lovers across the country.
  4. Agodi Gardens: Located on Parliament Road, beside the Oyo State Secretariat in Ibadan North Local Government, Agodi Gardens is a state-owned adventure site that spans 54 hectares of gently rolling terrain, with a lake at its southern end. Situated in the heart of Ibadan, the gardens are in close proximity to the Premier Hotel, an artificial lake, the Cultural Centre, and the University College Hospital. Agodi Gardens offers a unique blend of activities, including forestry, boating, fishing, wildlife, and recreational parks. The site is currently being upgraded into a world-class resort without compromising its natural beauty.
  5. Topfat Art Gallery: A must-visit for art enthusiasts, this gallery is a great place to appreciate local and international artworks.
  6. Trans Wonderland Amusement Park (Trans Amusement Park, Ibadan):As Nigeria’s largest amusement park, located on the site of the Old Ibadan Airport, Trans Wonderland offers attractions comparable to those at Disney World in the United States.
  7. Pentorise (Go-Kart Arena):A thrilling destination for adrenaline seekers, Pentorise (also known as the Go-Kart Arena) is where visitors can enjoy go-kart racing, skating, and table tennis. Located along Awolowo Road, opposite the Oyo State Housing Corporation building, it’s the perfect place for a fun and active outing in Ibadan.
